New Show Descriptions

Connecting...  - Connecting... is an ensemble comedy about a group of friends trying to stay close (and sane) through video chats as they share the highs and lows of these extraordinary times.

Transplant - The 13-episode series centers on Dr. Bashir "Bash" Hamed, a Syrian doctor with battle-tested skills in emergency medicine who fled his country with his younger sister, Amira. Together they struggle to build a new life in Canada as Bash strives to rebuild his career in medicine.

The Weakest Link - Host Jane Lynch will kick off the first episode of the worldwide global phenom. The new version will deliver the fast-paced and quick-witted pillars of the original British format distributed by BBC Studios with a few modern twists. The hybrid game show sees contestants answer general knowledge questions to bank prize money across multiple rounds. At the end of each round, the contestants vote out who they perceive to be the "Weakest Link" remaining.

Monday

8:00 - The Voice
10:00 - Manifest

NBC is hedging its bets on stability, as there are very few changes from its midseason schedule, and on their ability to have episodes produced by fall. With COVID cases climbing in Los Angeles County, it seems a strange time for NBC to announce so much original content for the fall, but then again... fall could mean "before Christmas" and this could actually happen.

Regardless, the midseason Monday schedule remains intact, with Manifest scoring a last-minute third season renewal yesterday.

Tuesday

8:00 - The Voice
9:00 - This Is Us
10:00 - New Amsterdam

This Is Us will return for its fifth season, the second in its three-season renewal, alongside New Amsterdam, which also received a three-season pickup this year.

Wednesday

8:00 - Chicago Med
9:00 - Chicago Fire
10:00 - Chicago P.D.

Like New Amsterdam, the entire Chicago franchise received three-season renewals this year. They return together for the same all-Chicago night.

Thursday

8:00 - Superstore
8:30 - Brooklyn Nine-Nine
9:00 - Law & Order: SVU (New Timeslot)
10:00 - Law & Order: Organized Crime (NEW)

The only night with a true shake-up is Thursday. NBC has pared back to one hour of comedies, stalwarts Superstore and Brooklyn Nine-Nine (which makes the fall schedule for the first time since moving to NBC in the 2018-19 season), and will use Law & Order: SVU to launch the new Christopher Meloni-led spin-off Organized Crime. Per earlier reports, it's likely Meloni will first return to SVU for a short arc before launching the new Stabler installment, the fifth in franchise history. (It'll be joined on Peacock, the new NBC streaming service, sometime this season by a sixth installment subtitled Hate Crimes.)

Friday

8:00 - The Blacklist
9:00 - Dateline NBC

With Blindspot gone, Deadline again occupies two hours on Friday nights.

Sunday

Midseason

Sometime in 2021, the midseason schedule will include the returns of Good Girls and Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, likely to Sunday nights, and Ellen's Game of Games. They'll be joined by new alternative series True Story, hosted by Ed Helms and Randall Park; That's My Jam, hosted by Jimmy Fallon and originally scheduled to premiere this summer following the Olympics; and Small Fortune. Also on tap are three new comedies: Kenan, which was ordered last year and never produced; Mr. Mayor, the new Tina Fey/Robert Carlock series starring Ted Danson and Holly Hunter; and Young Rock, starring Dwayne Johnson.

I'm somewhat skeptical that this schedule will make it into production, as even though Mayor Garcetti is allowing production on television shows to resume this week, I don't think it'll happen for a while. Even still, the only thing worth commenting on here is Law & Order: Organized Crime, which should be a slam-dunk for NBC. Fans have been clamoring for the return of Stabler, and now they finally get it.

Also of note is that NBC has made no decisions on any of its pilots, mostly because none were produced. All of their new series were from straight-to-series orders, not from pilot season. It'll be interesting to see what they do with them. Push them to the new cycle? Decline to order any of them? Mix them in with the next cycle and order (many) fewer for 2021-22?

Law & Order: Organized Crime - The drama features Christopher Meloni reprising his beloved Law & Order: SVU role as Elliot Stabler, who returns to the NYPD to battle organized crime after a devastating personal loss. However, the city and police department have changed dramatically in the decade he’s been away, and he must adapt to a criminal justice system in the midst of its own moment of reckoning. Throughout the series, we will follow Stabler’s journey to find absolution and rebuild his life, while leading a new elite task force that is taking apart the city’s most powerful criminal syndicates one by one.

Mr. Mayor - The series is about a wealthy businessman who runs for mayor of Los Angeles for all the wrong reasons. Once he wins he has to figure out what he stands for, gain the respect of his staff, and connect with his teenage daughter, all while controlling the coyote population.

Small Fortune - The U.S. series will be based on the popular U.K. format that launched on ITV in February 2019. Small Fortune will see teams of three friends compete in the tiniest of challenges for a chance to win big money. From a shrunk down Oval Office ("The Waste Wing") to a mini Arc de Triomphe ("Arc de Wee-Omph") each team must prove their skills on playing fields that have been squeezed down to the size of a dollhouse. Challenges will require considerable dexterity and intense focus because with games this small, there's no room for error as the slightest miscalculation or tremble may result in elimination.

That's My Jam - As host, executive producer and music lover, Fallon brings his one-of-a-kind comedic style and feel-good energy to That's My Jam, where America's favorite celebrities who love to sing and dance will compete against each other

True Story - Based on the critically acclaimed Australian megahit True Story with Hamish & Andy, True Story is a six-episode hybrid alternative-scripted series in which everyday Americans sit down with Helms and Park to share their most extraordinary and unbelievably true stories for the first time. As the stories unfold, events are humorously brought to life by a star-studded cast of comedians and actors in heightened, dramatized re-enactments of cinematic proportions. In a first-of-its-kind format, True Story will give real people their very own biopic with well-known celebrities cast in the title role. Each hourlong episode will feature two real-life stories.

Young Rock - A single-cam comedy inspired by Dwayne Johnson's formative years.
