2019-2020 Midseason Schedule: ABC

Monday

8:00 - The Bachelor (Beginning January 6)
10:00 - The Good Doctor (Returns January 13)
10:00 - The Baker & The Beauty (NEW - Beginning April 6)

For now, no plans for when The Bachelor ends; will Dancing with the Stars go back to a two-cycles-per-season format? Or will something else live in its timeslot this spring? Ditto to The Good Doctor, which produces only 18 episodes per season.

ETA 01/08/2020: ABC announced its new romantic dramedy The Baker & The Beauty, a "modern-day fairy tale" about an everyman and the superstar he falls for, will premiere April 6 after The Good Doctor wraps its season.

Tuesday

8:00 - The Conners (Returns January 21)
8:30 - Bless This Mess (Returns January 21)
9:00 - mixed-ish (Returns January 7)
9:30 - black-ish (Returns January 7)
10:00 - Emergence (Returns January 7)
10:00 - For Life (NEW - Beginning February 11)

The Conners and Bless This Mess are both producing 19 episodes this season, so they return slightly later than mixed-ish (22 episode) and black-ish (22-24 episodes). Emergence did not receive a backorder, so it will be replaced by For Life, the new 50 Cent-produced legal drama, in February.

Wednesday

8:00 - The Goldbergs (Returns January 15)
8:30 - Schooled (Returns January 15)
9:00 - Modern Family (Returns January 8)
9:00 - American Housewife (New Timeslot - Beginning April 15)
9:30 - Single Parents (Returns January 8)
10:00 - Stumptown (Returns January 8)

There's been no news about a backorder for Stumptown, but it remains on the schedule for the time being with no replacement. The final episodes of Modern Family begin airing on January 8.

ETA 01/08/2020: Modern Family ends its eleven season run on April 8. American Housewife moves into the Wednesday comedy block once again the following week to take over its timeslot.

Thursday

8:00 - Station 19 (New Timeslot - Beginning January 23)
9:00 - Grey's Anatomy (New Timeslot - Beginning January 23)
10:00 - A Million Little Things (New Timeslot - Beginning January 23)
10:00 - How to Get Away with Murder (Beginning April 2)

Station 19 returns for its third season an hour earlier following a crossover with its parent series, Grey's Anatomy, which shifts back an hour. It's an odd move considering how dominant Grey's is at 8:00, but it should protect A Million Little Things, which might otherwise be more vulnerable without its large lead-in. In a very silly move, the final episodes of How to Get Away with Murder begin in April, more than four months after the fall finale airs. But it's ending, so what does ABC care?

Friday

8:00 - American Housewife (Returns January 17)
8:00 - Shark Tank (New Timeslot - Beginning February 28)
8:30 - Fresh Off the Boat (Returns January 17)
9:00 - 20/20

No changes to Fridays for the time being as Fresh Off the Boat begins airing its final episodes. The finale airs February 21, so it seems a safe bet that new comedy United We Fall will take its place (unless ABC moves something from Tuesday or Wednesday).

ETA 01/08/2020: After Fresh Off the Boat airs its finale, American Housewife goes on a short hiatus before moving to Wednesdays. Shark Tank, which is displaced by American Idol on Sundays, returns to Friday nights at 8:00 on February 28. There is still no word on where United We Fall will end up.

Sunday

8:00 - American Idol (Beginning February 16)
10:00 - The Rookie (Returns February 23)

Like last year, ABC isn't really programming Sundays in January. It's likely to be all repeats until the Oscars on February 9, followed by the season premiere of American Idol the following week and the return of The Rookie's sophomore season the week after that.

Also on tap in January is the multiple-night primetime event Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time, which begins Tuesday, January 7 at 8:00 and will air nightly through Thursday, January 9.

ETA 01/08/2020: Still no plans announced for comedy United We Fall.
